Gönül Dilaver talks about the importance of Diversity and Inclusion
In the new edition of Pandora, the magazine of the Women's Network of Utrecht University, Dr. Gönül Dilaver (associate professor of Biomedical Sciences, founder of the UMC Utrecht Diversity and Inclusion Platform and Senior Fellow inclusive education) talks about the need for diversity and inclusion in science.
‘The lack of diversity in research can have far-reaching consequences which has been shown in various biomedical studies. For example, symptoms in women with cardiovascular disease have been misunderstood for years because heart failure is much better researched in men than in women. It even turns out that there was a higher risk of mortality for women treated with a certain heart medication, because it had not been tested specifically on women before’.
